Summer is upon us, and June is oral health month! For the second year in a row, Colgate is partnering with the American Dental Association (ADA) to sponsor a campaign throughout the nation about the importance of taking care of your teeth! While the campaign is specifically trying to increase awareness in Hispanic communities, everyone stands to benefit! Over the summer especially, it can be easy for parents and kids to get out of the routine of the school year. From sleeping in and late-night activities to vacations and summer camps, it is easy to forget the little things like brushing and flossing your teeth.
Colgate and the ADA are teaming up to tackle oral health in Hispanic communities. A fairly large portion of the Hispanic community reports poor oral health and hygiene. One of the main pushes of the program is to establish an oral health routine as a family. Now more than ever, it seems that everyone, including our kids, have incredibly busy lifestyles. However, it is still important that families set aside time to create a good oral care routine that the whole family can follow. Colgate’s website has dozens of tips and step by step directions for how to take good care of your teeth. In addition, they have learning and teaching tools for kids, parents, and teachers!
During the month of June, Colgate and the ADA are encouraging families nationwide to share a video or picture of them taking care of their teeth. Post the video/picture on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Google+ using the hashtag #TimeToSmile. For all the posts shared and liked, Colgate will donate $1 to the Give Kids a Smile program sponsored by the ADA. The Give Kids a Smile program was founded by the ADA to provide free dental care to under-served children. As a result, since it was founded in 2003, the ADA has served over 5.5 million children and counting!

In conclusion, just because it’s summer, don’t let your good habits go down the drain! Make teeth brushing fun! And most of all, enjoy oral health month!
